The United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) has called for policies that protect the rights of girls in Somalia.
UNSOM issued a statement in this regard on Wednesday while celebrating the International Day of the Girl Child.
Globally, the day is celebrated on October 11.
According to UNSOM, the day should be for celebrating the power and potential of Somali girls.
Somali girls undergo plenty of challenges. Some of these include gender-based violence (GBV), early marriage, and discrimination.
UNSOM called for increased collaboration between the Ministry of Women and Human Rights, civil society, and international partners to help the girl child in Somalia.
