UNSOM Commends Regional State Leaders for Attending Electoral Talks

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) commended the five regional state leaders for attending the ongoing electoral talks in Mogadishu.

UNSOM issued a statement on April 5 hailing the presence of leaders from the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and the Federal Member States (FMS).

The UN organization said that it felt “encouraged” to see the leaders turning up in their numbers for the closed-door discussions.

FGS and FMS leaders held consultative meetings from April 3-4.

They then took a break on April 5 before the scheduled resumption of talks on Tuesday, April 6.

In its statement, UNSOM urged Somali leaders to use these “important talks” to reach an electoral agreement.
