UNSOM Head Appeals for Urgent Funding from Somalia’s Friends

The Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) has appealed for urgent funding from friends of Somalia.

James Swan, the Head of UNSOM, made this urgent appeal while briefing the UN Security Council (UNSC) on the current situation in Somalia.

He addressed UNSC on September 8.

The UN envoy provided further details of the ongoing drought in Somalia and the emerging humanitarian crisis.

“I call upon all friends of Somalia to respond with urgent financial assistance,” Swan said.

He added that friends of the East African nation must increase the funding to enable Somalia to avert what could be one of the worst humanitarian crises in its history.
