UNSOM Welcomes Arrest of Mogadishu Man Who Burnt His Wife to Death

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) has welcomed the arrest of the man accused of setting his wife on fire thus leading to her death in Mogadishu.

UNSOM published a statement on Tuesday commending authorities for arresting the man.

Sayid Ali Moalim Daud was arrested while attempting to flee into Mudug.

He was then taken back to Mogadishu where he is expected to appear in court to answer to charges filed by the prosecution.

UNSOM commended Somali authorities for their commitment to investigate and prosecute sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in the country.

It extended condolences to the family and friends of Lul Abdiasis, the pregnant mother Daud killed.
