Donald Yamamoto, the United States Ambassador to Somalia, held a meeting on the collapsed electoral talks with Jubbaland and Puntland regional state leaders.
Ambassador Yamamoto’s meeting with Jubbaland’s President Ahmed Islam Madobe and Puntland’s Said Abdullahi Deni took place on April 11.
He met with the two influential leaders of Federal Member States (FMS) in Halane.
His meeting with Deni and Madobe took place a few days after the electoral talks in Mogadishu collapsed.
The message from the US Embassy in Mogadishu is that Yamamoto is on a mission to ensure that talks between the federal government and FMS resume immediately.
Apparently, he is on a mission to reconcile the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and FMS leaders to enable them to solve the months-long impasse.
