The huge presence of Somali security forces in Gedo is a cause for concern, said the United States and United Kingdom.
Consequently, the two nations have asked the Federal Government of Somalia to reduce its troops in the region. They also asked for a bit of restraint.
The two Western governments issued a joint statement with AMISOM and IGAD expressing their concern over increased insecurity.
In their statement, they said, “We urge all actors in the conflict to exercise constraint to avoid worsening the situation. It is also important to reduce the number of security forces in Gedo.”
Furthermore, they asked FGS and all concerned parties to “avoid the sort of actions capable of escalating the situation and sparking violence.”
The two nations also praised the recent phone call between President Farmaajo and President Uhuru of Somalia and Kenya respectively, which restored calmness in the Horn of Africa region.
