Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Ministry Urges US Not to Withdraw Troops from Somalia

Ambassador Kamau Macharia, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary of Foreign Affairs, has urged the United States not to withdraw its troops from Somalia.

This week, reports from the US indicated that President Donald Trump had urged his administration to do whatever is necessary to withdraw its troops from Somalia.

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has already spoken about the issue.

According to Farmaajo, the US has been one of Somalia’s most important allies in the war on terror, especially against Al-Shabaab.

On Saturday October 17, Ambassador Macharia warned that the planned exit by US troops could “worsen the already fragile security” in the Horn of Africa region.

Ambassador Macharia also warned that the militia groups in the region could take advantage of the withdrawal by the US troops to create more mayhem.
