US Embassy in Mogadishu Expresses Eagerness for Next Dhusamareb Meeting

The United States Embassy in Mogadishu has expressed its eagerness for the next round of talks in Galmudug’s administrative capital of Dhusamareb.

On Thursday August 13, the Embassy posted a message on Twitter indicating that it was ready for reports on the resolutions arrived at in the next meeting.

Earlier today, there were reports that the next round of talks, which were scheduled to kick off this Saturday on August 15, have been called off.

The news comes amid the fallout between the Federal Government of Somalia and Federal Member States over recent political events.

One event that stands out more than the rest is the decision by the House of Representatives to kick immediate former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire out of office.

The US Embassy has voiced its support for “widespread consultations” and “genuine compromise” to find an electoral model that works for all.

It has also urged the federal and regional governments to provide the broad-based support the entire electoral process needs to prepare for timely and credible elections.

Furthermore, the embassy has urged all stakeholders not to mandate or offer their support to the cries for term extensions.
