US Expresses Solidarity with Burundi for Losing Soldiers When Al-Shabaab Attacked ATMIS Forces

The United States government has expressed solidarity with Burundi for losing some of its soldiers when Al-Shabaab attacked a base camp in HirShabelle, Somalia.

The US government issued a press release dated May 5 stating that it stands with Burundi following the Al-Shabaab attack on May 3.

Burundi lost more than 10 of its soldiers in the Wednesday attack in El-Baraf.

Through the Department of State, the US government expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the soldiers who died or were injured in the deadly attack.

It also commended the courage that Burundian soldiers serving under the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) have always displayed over the years.
