United States naval vessels have gathered around Somalia ahead of the planned withdrawal of its troops from the East African nation.
Last month, the United States announced plans to withdraw its troops from Somalia.
The announcement was made prior to the presidential elections of November 2020, which President Donald Trump lost to his challenger, Joe Biden.
Trump had previously made a similar announcement ahead of the 2016 presidential polls.
Since last month, the US has dispatched several of its vessels to the region to support the troop repositioning exercise.
Two of the vessels in Somalia’s coast are USS Hershel Woody Williams and USS Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
