The United States is to work closely with some of its partners to have the recently signed deal between Ethiopia and Somaliland canceled.
John Kirby, the Director of Strategic Communications at the National Security Council (NSC), reiterated this on Wednesday.
Kirby admits that the US government remains concerned about the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that Ethiopia and Somaliland signed on January 1, 2024.
He added that the MoU has the capacity of destabilizing the region.
According to Kirby, the agreement could also embolden Al-Shabaab militants in not only Somalia but the entire region thus posing a security threat.
