US Urges Farmaajo and Roble to End Political Wrangles

The United States government has encouraged President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo and Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble to end their political wrangles.

Differences between Farmaajo and Roble have played out in the open in the last few months.

The two senior leaders of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) fell out after the murder of a young female National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) officer.

On October 13, the United States Bureau of African Affairs wrote to Farmaajo and Roble advising them to resolve their differences.

In its statement, the Bureau noted that the differences between the two leaders could create tension that makes it impossible for Somalia to hold elections.

Further, the Bureau of African Affairs urged Somalia’s National Consultative Council to “ensure that it completes all elections this year.”

Thus far, Somalia has held elections for the Upper House seats.

The presidential polls that were to take place in October 2021 could be time-barred.

The Bureau of African Affairs said this after officials from the State Department held a meeting with Mohamed Abdirisak, Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
