US Urges Roble to Avoid Escalatory Rhetoric and Actions

The United States government has encouraged President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo to avoid “escalatory rhetoric and actions.”

On December 29, Mary Catherine Molly Phee, the US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, spoke to Farmaajo on the latest developments in Somalia.

Molly Phee reminded Farmaajo of the importance of stopping all rhetoric and actions that could escalate the already bad situation.

Further, she urged security forces to remain neutral.

Her comments follow reports that security forces have divided their loyalty between President Farmaajo and Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble.

The Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs asked Farmaajo to support Roble in convening the National Consultative Council (NCC).
