US Urges Somali Leaders to Resolve Outstanding Issues Now

The United States government has requested Somali leaders to resolve all outstanding issues amongst themselves now.

On January 29, the US Embassy in Somalia sent out an appeal to the leaders to “meet and resolve outstanding issues now” for the sake of the country’s peace.

Specifically, the US Embassy appealed to President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).

Furthermore, it also appealed the five regional state leaders.

The Embassy mentioned Puntland’s President Said Abdullahi Deni, Jubbaland’s President Ahmed Islam Madobe, and Galmudug’s President Ahmed Abdi Karie Qoorqoor.

In its communiqué, the US Embassy also mentioned HirShabelle’s President Ali Guudlaawe and Southwest’s President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Lafta-Gareen.

According to the US Embassy’s communiqué, the people of Somalia deserve stable leadership that resolves outstanding issues and guarantees peaceful elections.

It discouraged the leadership from entertaining thoughts of holding parallel or partial elections, which could be a recipe for disaster.
