The United States has welcomed the ongoing National Consultative Conference on elections in Dhusamareb between Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS).
The conference is currently going on in Galmudug State.
It kicked off on February 1 and the expectation is that it lasts the entire week.
Last week, President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo announced that he would be meeting the regional state leaders to discuss solutions for the electoral impasse.
On Thursday, the US Embassy in Mogadishu issued a statement welcoming the consultations between Farmaajo’s administration and FMS leaders.
All regional state leaders are in Dhusamareb for the meeting.
In its statement, US Embassy warned against “delaying the polls or holding partial/alternate elections” in Somalia.
It encouraged leaders to “resolve their differences” and ensure that the country holds elections without any more delays.
