A veteran Somali army officer passed away in Mogadishu on Friday.
General Mohamud Gelle Yusuf passed away on Thursday, as per confirmation from his family and friends.
Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Sheikh Muhuyidin, the Somali National Army (SNA) chief, led the nation in mourning the loss.
The SNA chief expressed deep sympathies to the deceased’s family.
He described Gen. Yusuf as a seasoned officer who served the nation with distinction.
Gen. Yusuf served the military in various capacities. At one time, he was the deputy chief of the SNA and commander of the Navy Force.
