Vietnam and Indonesia Condemn Ongoing Violence in Somalia

Vietnam and Indonesia spoke out strongly against the ongoing violence in Somalia during a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) session.

The two nations spoke out against increased use of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and suicide bombs against innocent civilians in different parts of the East African nation.

In recent weeks, extremists have increased their attacks against Somali National Army (SNA) and African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) officers in the country.

Officials working for the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) have also withstood the worst of the attacks by members of the Al-Qaeda linked group.

Ambassador Dian Triansyah Djani, Indonesia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, spoke out against the violent attacks in Somalia on November 23.

He addressed the day’s UNSC session virtually.

Ambassador Djani also spoke on behalf of the Vietnamese delegation.

He also urged the international community to step in and help Somalia to handle the increased humanitarian crises it faces from COVID-19 pandemic, desert locust invasion, and floods.

Both Vietnam and Indonesia vowed to continue working closely with United Nations to ensure that Somalia receives all the humanitarian and developmental aid it needs.
