Wadajir Party Backs Speaker Hashi’s Stance on Electoral Commission for Somaliland

Wadajir Party, an opposition party in Somalia, has supported the sentiments by Speaker Abdi Hashi Abdullahi of the Upper House on government’s involvement in the selection of the electoral commission.

The opposition party said that Speaker Hashi is the most senior Somaliland official elected into office in Somalia.

Consequently, the party reminded the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) not to overlook his opinion and views on the composition of such important electoral bodies.

Recently, Speaker Hashi condemned the move by the government to play a role in the appointment of members of the Federal Electoral Commission (FEC) to facilitate the election of Somaliland Members of Parliament (MPs).

Furthermore, Wadajir Party lent its support to Speaker Hashi’s plan to appoint eight members to the State Indirect Electoral Implementation Team (SIEIT).
