Wadajir Party Concerned that NISA Has Taken Charge of SNA

Wadajir Party has expressed concern with the taking over of the Somali National Army (SNA) top leadership by the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).

The leadership of the party issued a press release on September 9, 2020 highlighting various developments it has noted with the two institutions.

Wadajir Party stated that the “blending of the command structures of the SNA and NISA is a cause for concern.”

Furthermore, in the press release, the party mentioned that SNA commanders receive instructions from the Director of NISA, Fahad Yasin.

Wadajir Party, one of Somalia’s main opposition parties, also claims that the recent sackings, suspensions, and promotions in SNA were carried out to “serve political interests.”

Additionally, it mentioned the rampant “nepotism and misuse of power” that fills the file and rank of both NISA and SNA.

In its press release, the party said that NISA had replaced competent officers at SNA with people whose only qualification is loyalty to President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.
