Wadajir Party Dismisses Need for Legislative Approval for Dhusamareb Agreement

The Wadajir Party has dismissed the need for legislative approval for the recent agreement signed in Dhusamareb between Federal Government of Somalia and Federal Member States.

The opposition party termed the deal signed in Dhusamareb a “political agreement.”

In its opinion, which it published on a press statement issued on August 22, the party said parliament does not have to approve the agreement.

These remarks follow reports that President Mohamed Farmaajo had assured the House of Representatives he would present any agreement reached in Dhusamareb before them.

Farmaajo believes that parliament must debate the agreement before it is implemented.

Dhusamareb III talks successfully settled the issue of the electoral model to use in Somalia’s upcoming polls.

Furthermore, the party’s statement called the agreement “incomplete” because of the absence of leaders from Puntland and Jubbaland at the talks.

Nevertheless, it termed the agreement a good “starting point” on the road to elections.
