Wadajir Party Insists Somalia Should Have Gone for One-Person-One-Vote Model

Wadajir Party issued a press statement dated September 26 insisting that Somalia should have gone for the one-person-one-vote elections (1P1V).

In its press release, the opposition party stated that the decision by Federal Government of Somalia and Federal Member States to bypass the 1P1V model was “regrettable.”

Furthermore, it mentioned that Somalis had lost a great opportunity to participate in what would have been historic elections.

Last month, FGS and FMS leaders meeting in Mogadishu signed an agreement defining the exact electoral model for the country.

Wadajir Party hit back at the country’s leadership for wasting the past four years after voting for a model that was used in 2016 to elect political leaders.

FGS and FMS agreed on an indirect system where delegates would vote their preferred parliamentary and council leaders.
