The leader of Somalia’s Wadajir Party has urged more Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to take part in elections.
Abdirahman Abdishakur, Wadajir Party’s leader and presidential candidate, made this call on Monday, October 5.
He was responding to a statement by Somali Disability Empowerment Network (SODEN) where it expressed its gratitude to the opposition party leader for taking part in a ZOOM meeting.
Abdishakur stated that the “most marginalized citizens” have to take part in elections and the entire political process for democracy to function.
Furthermore, he said that the most marginalized groups must “have a meaningful voice in decisions that affect their lives.”
Consequently, Abdishakur encouraged people from the most marginalized groups, such as PWDs, to register for and participate in the upcoming elections in Somalia.
He vowed that his party would not only support but also promote the participation of PWDs in the country’s elections and politics.
