Wadajir Party Says New Elections Deal Creates Hope for Smooth Political Transition

The leadership of Wadajir Party believes that the new elections deal that was signed in Mogadishu on September 17 has made a smooth political transition possible.

Prior to the deal, the country was filled with political uncertainties.

Politicians had started taking firm and extreme stands on different issues. At one point, talks of presidential term extensions were mooted.

Wadajir Party issued a press release on September 18 commending the leadership that struck the new deal at Villa Somalia on Thursday.

It stated that the new agreement has created belief in a “peaceful political transition.”

Somalia has been beset by decades of instability. Civil wars, deadly attacks by Al-Shabaab, and a dysfunctional government have combined to make elections life-and-death affairs.

The opposition party now urges the international community to support the new deal and cooperate with Somalis to implement it successfully.
