Warsame Vows to Improve Relations with Kenya if Elected New Somali President

Abdihabib Warsame has vowed to prioritize relations with Kenya if he is elected the new President of Somalia.

The 44-year old political scientist, vying for the presidency for the first time, made this pledge on Sunday, November 15.

He cited the “numerous challenges that Somalia is facing regionally and globally” as a cause for concern.

Further, Warsame accused President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo’s regime of failing to offer hope to Somalis regarding the future.

Warsame is an accomplished businessman who operates mostly from the United States.

He intends to stand against President Farmaajo and other experienced politicians in Somalia’s presidential elections set for February 8, 2020.

Warsame promised to improve relations with Kenya as a matter of urgency while addressing the media in Nairobi on Sunday.

He joins a list of candidates that include ex-President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed, ex-President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud, and ex-Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire among others.
