Water Ministry Holds World Water Day Celebrations in Mogadishu

The Ministry of Energy and Water Resources held celebrations to mark World Water Day in Mogadishu.

The event took place on Tuesday, March 22.

Shukri Afrah, the State Minister of Energy and Water Resources, was one of the senior government officials at the event.

According to her, the theme for this year’s celebrations is “groundwater.”

Furthermore, the state minister also indicated that the government remains committed to overcoming the water challenges that Somalia experiences.

This year’s World Water Day celebrations come at a time of grave sadness to Somalia.

The East African nation is in the middle of one of its worst droughts of the last 40 years.

Humans, crops, and animals alike are dying and at great risk of unimaginable suffering owing to the failed rains and harsh conditions.
