Four candidates vying for Galmudug’s presidential elections on January 30 announced their withdrawal from the race.
The candidates – Kamal Dahir Gutale, Abdullahi Farah Weheliye, Abdirahman Mohamed, and Abdi Ahmed – vowed to boycott the polls.
They claimed a committee full of disunited members organized the elections. Therefore, they believe the process is already flawed, thus unlikely to deliver accurate results.
In a press release, they said, “The organizing committee is full of divisions. We will not trust polls organized by one faction of the committee.”
Furthermore, the candidates questioned the accuracy of the election timetable the committee released.
In their opinion, the Federal Government of Somalia hijacked the entire process. Consequently, they assert that the formation of an inclusive and united Galmudug State will not be possible.
