The World Food Programme (WFP) plans to reach more than 8.5 million people in the Horn of Africa region with humanitarian assistance.
WFP announced its plans on Wednesday, August 31.
The global organization announced that it intends to scale up its humanitarian interventions to reach more people in the region.
Countries in the region are experiencing one of the worst droughts in years.
Millions of people in these countries are unable to access food or water for their use and that of their animals.
Consequently, the humanitarian situation looks bleak.
