World Bank Appoints a New Country Director for Kenya, Somalia, Uganda and Rwanda

The World Bank has appointed Qimiao Fan as the new Country Director for Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, and Rwanda, effective September 1, 2024.

Qimiao, a Chinese national, brings extensive experience in development, having previously served in various capacities at the World Bank.

In his new role, Qimiao will focus on supporting these countries in achieving sustainable development goals, economic recovery post-COVID-19, and addressing challenges such as poverty reduction, climate change, and governance reforms.

Qimiao will also take charge of an active portfolio that features 102 projects worth roughly $17.2 billion in the four countries.

He will work closely with governments, private sectors, and civil society organizations in Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, and Rwanda to ensure effective implementation of the World Bank’s country partnership frameworks and regional strategies.
