A Turkish bank sent one of its most senior officers to Somalia to discuss opening of a local branch in the East African nation.
Ziraat Katilim, the Turkish bank, was established on May 12, 2015.
As a member of Ziraat Finance Group, it’s wholly owned by the Turkish Treasury.
Osman Karakutuk, the Vice President of Ziraat Katilim Bank, was in Somalia on August 4 to discuss possibilities of establishing its presence in the country.
Karakutuk held a meeting with Ambassador Gamal M. Hassan, Somalia’s Minister of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development, on this issue.
Ziraat’s VP briefed Ambassador Gamal on the progress made in its attempts to start operating in the Horn of Africa naton.
Ambassador Gamal assured Karakutuk that the government, through the Somalia Investment Promotion Office (SOMINVEST), supports and welcomes investors into all sectors of the economy.
