33 Iranian Fishermen Detained in Somalia Set Free

Thirty-three Iranian fishermen who had been detained in Somalia were set free.

Somali authorities released the men on Tuesday.

Ai Gholampour, the Iranian Ambassador to Somalia and Kenya, confirmed the latest developments  regarding the sailors and fishermen.

He added that they were all free after the Iranian government intervened to have them released.

The fishermen and sailors were arrested several weeks ago for fishing in the Somali waters illegally.

A statement from Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the Iranians had already been deported back to their country.
