On Monday, Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack against the chief of Somali National Army (SNA), General Yusuf Rageh Odawaa.
General Odawaa was the target of an assassination attempt carried out by the Al-Qaeda linked group in Mogadishu.
Al-Shabaab has now issued a press release through its proxy media outlets claiming its fighters were responsible detonating the VBIED that struck General Odawaa’s convoy.
The attack took place in Mogadishu’s Hodan District specifically between Mogadishu Stadium and Somali National Army Hospital.
Al-Shabaab said that it killed five SNA soldiers during the attack while injuring nine others seriously.
The dead and injured soldiers were part of the contingent that was guarding General Odawaa.
