A senior Al-Shabaab leader has surrendered to Somali National Army (SNA) forces in a district in the regional state of Jubbaland.
Mohamed Mustaf Abdikarim, who has been an Al-Shabaab ringleader for a long time, gave himself up to the security forces in Afmadow.
Security forces have been carrying out military operations in the region for several months now jointly with members of the local communities.
Thus far, joint operations have been quite successful at silencing Al-Shabaab militants.
