Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the recent attack carried out in Bosaso, which serves as the commercial hub of Puntland in northeastern Somalia.
The extremist group issued a statement clarifying that its fighters carried out the attacks that killed at least one officer.
Al-Shabaab said it targeted state security personnel in the attack. Mortar attacks and bomb blasts rocked the city.
Bosaso has a history of several attacks by the militants. ISIS-linked militants operating in Bari claimed responsibility for some of the past attacks.
The United States military carried out several airstrikes to destabilize and destroy Al-Shabaab in the region.
