Reports from Somalia indicate that African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has confiscated weapons from Tigray officers who are part of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF).
AMISOM took this measure in response to the ongoing offensive by the Ethiopian military in Tigray.
The move by the organization is likely to lead to questions about AMISOM’s credibility in the East African nation.
Several soldiers from Tigray are part of the ENDF forces taking part in peace-building efforts in Somalia.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s administration is at loggerheads with Tigray People’s Liberation Force (TPLF).
Abiy accused TPLF of “crossing the red line” when they attacked Ethiopian military bases.
Since then, the two sides have launched a massive fight against each other in the region forcing many people to flee and seek refuge elsewhere.
AMISOM is yet to comment on the latest reports regarding its involvement in the clash between Tigray fighters and ENDF.
