AMISOM Forces Accused of Killing 7 Civilians in Lower Shabelle

African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) forces are under pressure over the identity of the people they killed in Lower Shabelle on August 10.

On Tuesday, AMISOM issued a press release saying that its forces killed seven militants in Lower Shabelle.

In its report, AMISOM said that its forces encountered an ambush that the militants had laid out for them.

The soldiers responded by firing at the militants and killing seven of them while injuring many others.

However, the reports are now being questioned.

According to local sources, those killed were innocent civilians. Apparently, AMISOM suspected them of being extremists and opened fire at them thus causing the deaths and injuries.

AMISOM has not yet issued a response to these latest reports.
