AMISOM Trains SPF Officers How to Counter Terrorism Through Community Policing

African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has been training Somali Police Force (SPF) officers how to counter terrorism through community policing.

The weeklong training kicked off on August 3 in Mogadishu.

AMISOM seeks to train SPF officers to combat terrorism and extremism.

Somalia is home to Al-Shabaab and other extremist groups that continue to wreak havoc in various parts of the country.

During the training, SPF officers will learn about the importance of collaborating and partnering with members of their local communities.

The AMISOM Police Unit is to be in charge of the training.

The training, which takes place at Mogadishu’s General Kahiye Police Academy will involve 25 SPF officers.

Augustine Magnus Kailie, the AMISOM Police Commissioner and Assistant Inspector General of Police, opened the training on Tuesday.

He was with Brig. Gen. Zakia Hussein Ahmed, the SPF Deputy Police Commissioner.
