A senior Al-Shabaab leader has added his name to the list of Al-Shabaab members who are surrendering to the Somali National Army (SNA).
Nur Abdullahi Maalingur, who is also known as AK Nur Deeq, defected to the government side on Tuesday.
Up until his defection, Maalingur had been the leader of the Al-Shabaab militants in Mudug region.
Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, the federal Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, confirmed Maalingur’s defection to the public.
Fiqi added that Maalingur had played a huge role in the activities of the terrorist group in Mudug.
Maalingur was presented to the press shortly after his surrender.
