A delegation from the African Union (AU) has arrived in Somalia to discuss the recent expulsion of a senior diplomat.
The delegation was from the African Union Peace and Security Council (AU-PSC).
Their arrival came only two days before the deadline the Somalia government gave to AU’s Simon Mulongo to leave the country expired.
Dr. Mohamed Omar Gad, the Egyptian Ambassador to Ethiopia and its Permanent Representative to the AU led the delegation.
Francisco Madeira, the Head of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) led the team that received the AU delegation.
Several senior AMISOM commanders were also present at the welcoming event.
Prior to his expulsion, Mulongo had served as AMISOM’s Deputy Head.
Somalia gave Mulongo seven days to leave the country after declaring him persona non grata on November 4.
During their time in Somalia, the AU-PSC delegation will hold meetings with senior government officials.
These include Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble and President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.
