Bihi Rebukes Somalia for Meddling in Somaliland’s Affairs

President Muse Bihi Abdi has rebuked the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) for meddling in Somaliland’s internal affairs.

Bihi issued the stern rebuke on January 12.

In his address, Bihi said, “Somaliland and Somalia have a common destiny in that their people are Somalis.”

Nevertheless, he told FGS that the decision it took to elect Somaliland’s Members of Parliament (MPs) in Mogadishu is proof of its “meddling in our internal affairs.”

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo’s administration announced that Somaliland’s MPs would be elected in Mogadishu.

That decision has elicited stinging reaction from Somaliland.

Abdi Hashi, the Speaker of the Senate (Upper House) has been at the forefront in condemning that decision.

Somaliland broke away from Somalia in 1991 after the two countries became one upon attaining independence in 1960.
