The Burundian government has confirmed that 10 of its soldiers serving under the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) were killed in a recent terrorist attack.
According to Burundi, 10 soldiers died when their base camp in HirShabelle came under deadly attack from the Al-Shabaab militia.
This confirmation refutes the reports from an unnamed soldier who spoke to the media on a condition of anonymity.
The unnamed soldier had claimed that the attack killed 30 Burundian soldiers.
Floribert Biyereke, the spokesperson of the Burundian army, confirmed this when speaking to the media on May 5.
Biyereke stated that 25 other soldiers were wounded in the Tuesday attack.
In his statement, Biyereke indicated that 20 Al-Shabaab militants lost their lives in the terror attack.
