Children who were being trained to be soldiers were rescued from an Al-Shabaab camp in Lower Shabelle on Friday.
State media reported that an operation by the Somali National Army (SNA) soldiers in the region led to several children being rescued.
Al-Qaeda operates a base in the region, which it uses to recruit and train new fighters.
Young children are part of the group of students being trained at the base to terrorize security forces innocent civilians, and the public too.
On September 25, SNA soldiers arrived in the region specifically to rescue the young children.
They met a few Al-Shabaab fighters who resisted the rescue attempts. Consequently, about 16 of the militants were killed as the rest ran for their lives.
Rescuers said that the children had been kidnapped and detained at the camp. Since then, they have been waiting for the training to commence.
