Creation of SSC-Khaatumo State Could Affect Somalia-Somaliland Relations, Warns Deni

The creation of the SSC-Khaatumo regional state is likely to affect Somalia-Somaliland relations.

President Said Abdullahi Deni of the regional state of Puntland warned earlier today.

President Deni said this while addressing the opening of the 53rd Session of the Puntland Parliament in Garowe.

In his address, President Deni warned that the new state could affect Somaliland’s position in the new Somalia constitution.

Somalia is currently in the process of drafting a new constitution.

For much of this year, Somaliland has been at war with local forces in the SSC-Khaatumo area. The SSC-Khaatumo forces are pro-Mogadishu.

“We need to resolve the conflict between Somaliland and SSC-Khaatumo before completing our constitution and the relevant laws,” President Deni indicated.
