Daris Wacan Project Delivers Clean Water to Jubbaland Villages

Belet Xaawo, Somalia – The Daris Wacan Project, in collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) Somalia and backed by the European Union Delegation in Somalia, has successfully brought sustainable clean water access to Dhuxungudud and Bula Amin villages in Jubbaland state.

The project installed motorized shallow well systems in both communities, providing residents with reliable access to safe drinking water.

This milestone marks a significant step in strengthening local resilience against climate-related shocks, such as drought, which have long impacted the region.

Local leaders and residents hailed the initiative as transformative, noting its role in improving public health, reducing the burden on women and children who often walk long distances for water, and laying the groundwork for future development.

The intervention underscores the EU and IOM’s continued support for community-driven, climate-resilient solutions across Somalia.
