African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops from Djibouti donated an assortment of sports equipment to Beletweyne youth groups.
The Djiboutian contingent made the donation on Wednesday, November 11.
AMISOM stated that the equipment would go towards enabling young people in the region to embrace healthy habits.
According to the organization, young people should participate in sports in safe environment.
Nadar Tabah Maalin, the Mayor of Beletweyne Town, was on hand to welcome the Djiboutian troops and receive their donations.
Hussein Osman Ali, the Deputy Governor Hiran Region, who is also responsible for Social Services, accompanied Mayor Maalin to the function.
AMISOM troops handed over the equipment at Lama Galaxy Military Base.
While receiving the donation, Mayor Maalin said, “AMISOM has helped us in several ways. We are grateful to them for the five boreholes they rehabilitated in Mahas too.”
The equipment that AMISOM donated include referees uniforms, sports jerseys, linesmen flags, watches, trophies, and whistles.
The Djiboutian contingent confirmed that the donations were part of AMISOM’s Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC).
