Mogadishu, Somalia – Former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has raised serious concerns over what he described as actions that threaten Somalia’s unity, stability, and constitutional order.
In a strongly worded statement issued Thursday, Farmaajo accused President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of violating the constitution, eroding the federal system, and dismantling the National Consultative Council (NCC)—a critical platform for intergovernmental dialogue and decision-making.
“The recent political maneuvers are a clear deviation from the constitutional framework and undermine the hard-won progress on federalism,” Farmaajo stated, warning that these actions could further destabilize the country at a time when national cohesion is most needed.
Farmaajo emphasized the importance of political consensus and urged the current administration to return to dialogue and respect for constitutional governance.
He called on national leaders to prioritize unity and stability over unilateral actions, warning that continued disregard for the federal system could push the nation toward deeper crisis.
The former President’s remarks come amid rising political tensions between Villa Somalia and federal member states, as well as criticism over the centralization of power in Mogadishu.
There has been no immediate response from President Hassan Sheikh’s office regarding the accusations.
