Farmaajo Reassures Somalis of Electoral Preparedness

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has reassured Somalis that the government and all relevant institutions are prepared for the upcoming elections.

On Friday, November 14, he issued a press release reaffirming his belief that the country is ready to hold “well-coordinated elections.”

Somalia is scheduled to hold local and parliamentary elections in December 2020.

In February 2021, the East African nation would be ready for presidential elections.

Politicians, especially those from the opposition, have been condemning President Farmaajo’s administration for haphazard preparations for the elections.

This week, Farmaajo signed the agreement signed between the Federal Government of Somalia and Federal Member States in September 2020.

Farmaajo hailed the signing of the agreement as the “culmination of the inclusive political agreement that leads to indirect elections.”

The House of Representatives and the Upper House have already approved the agreement.

He urged all institutions to play their roles “effectively” to ensure that they “facilitate the elections smoothly according to the dictates of the signed political agreements.”
