FCDO Director-General Welcomes Reopening of Somalia-Kenya Border

The Director-General of the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) has welcomed the reopening of the border between Somalia and Kenya.

Director-General Nick Dyer, of the FCDO’s Humanitarian and Development Department, welcomed the news on July 16.

He said that the decision to reopen the border between the two neighboring nations is great news for accessing humanitarian assistance.

Dyer looks forward to a more effective response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in both nations.

Somalia and Kenya are both experiencing an ongoing drought that threatens millions of people in the Horn of Africa.

He has been visiting various locations in Somalia, Kenya, and Ethiopia to evaluate the effect of the drought and the humanitarian assistance needed therein.

Somalia and Kenya reopened their border following a recent meeting between President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and President Uhuru Kenyatta in Nairobi, Kenya.
