Federal MP Accuses Somali President of Seeking to Alter the Constitution Unilaterally

A federal Member of Parliament (MP) has accused the President of Somalia of seeking to alter the country’s constitution unilaterally,

Abdirahman Abdishakur, a legislator and leader of the Wadajir Party, made these accusations on Thursday.

He added that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud seeks to shift the country from its hybrid parliamentary system to one that grants him excessive powers.

Abdishakur joins the list of influential leaders in the country who have spoken out against the ongoing constitutional amendments.
