The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has played a crucial role in the establishment of the first-ever Baahi-koob Centre (Sexual Assault Referral Center) in Somaliland.
Its establishment is a significant milestone in addressing gender-based violence (GBV) in Somaliland.
Supported by UNDP, this is the region’s first-ever Sexual Assault Referral Center, offering a wide range of services to survivors of violence.
Immediate and long-term healthcare is available at the center for physical injuries and trauma sustained by the survivors.
Those who report to the center will benefit from psychological support to help them recover emotionally more effectively.
Survivors are assured of assistance in navigating the legal process to seek justice.
The center is to help with case registration, which involves providing support in documenting and pursuing cases effectively.
So far, the center has provided support to 7,055 survivors, demonstrating its critical role in safeguarding human rights and promoting justice in Somaliland.
