Former Somali President Says He Hasn’t Quit Presidential Race

Ex-President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed has denied reports circulating around indicating that he has withdrawn from the presidential race.

On August 4, ex-President Ahmed posted a message on his official Facebook account addressed to his supporters.

In the post, Ahmed assured his supporters that he’s still in the race to take over from the outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo as the country’s new leader.

In his statement, Ahmed said, “We remain committed to the principles of democracy and free competition.”

“The political vision we have coupled with the strong alliances that we’re building are proof of our commitment to fighting for changes in the country,” the former President said.

He also denied reports that a group comprising intellectuals and politicians from Mudulod clan have come up with the name of one presidential candidate to back.
